pictures from the week

The view out my office window on Tuesday. It looked much prettier out this window than it did out my windshield as I drove home that night. It took me over two hours to make a normally 50 minute trip. I almost crapped my pants a couple of times that night. I was so glad just to get home.
These are my valentine's flowers from Murph. I love them. I should. I picked them out.
This is today's highlight. My office furniture got delivered today. Up until this point, I had loaner furniture. I had a floorplan, so I had an idea as to how the layout was going to be, but I had no clue what the furniture looked like. I wasn't expecting anything like this. I've never had brand new office furniture (unless you count a chair mat). There are three other pieces in the room that these pics don't show. Can I say again how much I love my job?
Nothing exciting on the agenda for the weekend....just some errands tomorrow, and hopefully a lazy Sunday here at home. I've been trying to fight off a cold or some other kind of sick for most of the week, so I'm hoping to kick it to the curb once and for all this weekend. Almost everyone has a long weekend, but since I'm planning on taking next Friday off, I'm going to work on Monday instead. Seester is going to meet me for lunch early next week, since she has off from school for a few days, so that will be a highlight. And I think I'm going visiting to Lawn Guyland on Friday, so that should be pretty decent, too.

getting my dharma on, tales of the wii and a recap

Gearing up for tonight's Lost viewing with members of our own "Oceanic 6" (a/k/a me, Megan, Vin, Mark, Carrie and the other Laura). Seester (Megan) and I are wanting to start a tradition of watching Lost episodes together, especially now that we only live 10 minutes away from each other. I like the idea of watching it with a group of people so that we can discuss what's going on, devise theories, refresh each other's memories, etc.....kind of like a book club. Last week, we had a viewing party for the season premiere at her house; tonight it is at the other Laura's house. Hopefully, I'll get some living room furniture before the 8 episodes run out, so I can play hostess, too.
Now, as far as last week's episode....talk about sensory overload! Flashbacks, flash-forwards....on the island, off the island. So sad for Hurley in his mourning of Chah-lee, but holy crap, that whole scene at Jacob's cabin! There is no doubt in my mind that who he saw in that chair was Christian Shepherd.

But who in the *HELL* is the owner of THE EYE??

While at Megan's house last Thursday, I was introduced to, and subsequently corrupted by, the Wii. Well, holy hell. All I did was play some Wii Sports Bowling, and I was totally hooked. I went home that night and told Brian "we gotta get a Wii!". After some online searching, I deferred to ebay, and by Tuesday, ended up bidding on and winning one that was being sold by someone in my town. So after some phone calls and a late night visit to a stranger's house, we had a Wii. Brian and I have been playing every day. And the crazy thing is, we are feeling sore as if we were really physically partaking in the sports we are playing. He's got a sore arm and twinges in the back from video bowling like he used to get when we'd really go bowling. And between golf, boxing and bowling, my right arm and leg feel a little abused. I have decided that I need to switch my settings to those of a left-handed person, so that I am at least getting a balanced work out!!
The other big highlight of the past week was our Saturday night dinner date with Gina and Fred. Now she and I have quickly become BFs over a matter of months (since late summer, early fall, right, G?). Once I knew for sure that Brian and I were moving back home, Gina and I would talk about getting together....letting the boys meet, so that we could start hanging out all four of us. I was super excited, because it has been so long since we really did things socially with other couples. So last Saturday was our big dinner. We had so much fun!! We sat at the restaurant for hours...the waitress kept coming back to our table after she had given us the check to see if we were ready for her to take it, and each time she came, we still hadn't touched it. Finally she had to tell us that they wanted to close the register out for the night. And when we looked around, there was only one other couple left in the place! When I went to the ladies' room around that time, there were employees leaving out the back door. So I guess we may have been keeping them open. One of the ongoing jokes of the night was playing name that tune with the piano player. He must have broken out his 80s songbook, because he was playing some crazy song selections. I wish I could remember more specific titles, but I specifically remember "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" because that was one of the first ones that caught our attention. And I think there was a Rolling Stones song played over the course of his set, too. I just remember that he would intersperse classical pieces, too, so suffice it to say, it was a very unique musical experience.
Oh yeah, yay Giants for beating the Cheat-triots!! I don't think the Pats' winning record this season should have gone anywhere near a record book, when they used videotapes of their opposing teams' play-calling to win. I really hope something comes of this whole anti-trust investigation, because they need to be held accountable for their actions. For someone who really doesn't pay attention to football, or sports in general (except to watch fights at hockey games), I have apparently been pretty vocal in my disdain for the Cheat-triots, since Brian has taken to referring to me as being "very bitter" where New England is concerned. I didn't really realize it until he said something. But I guess I just have a very special place in my heart for cheaters.
